SKULLS
Citrine
Is hand sculpted with a sculptural epoxy compound. This compound sets at room tempature allowing found objects to be added to the sculpture. The work is gold leafed by hand and adorned by a crown of amber Citrine crystals. This time consuming laborious process emphasizes and celebrates the meditative aspect of the art making process. This latest work in the Ball skull series and will be on display at Art Miami 26.

The process: once the idea and dimensions of the work were established the work began. The accuracy and fine detail were very important elements that could make or break the piece. I decided to 3d print an armature and sculpt directly onto it in paraffin wax. Investment casting, or lost wax casting was chosen as a means of production to ensure fine details were passed on to the completed sculpture. Commissioned Early 2020

Buddha
All the sculptures are hand sculpted by Johnathan Ball. Most use a polymer clay as their base. Each piece is completely unique, a one of a kind original. “ I like to mix materials together, amethyst crystals and geodes are a source of inspiration, their complexity is mysterious. I often create the works around the stones, starting with them in the center.”
Buddha, polymer clay, amethyst crystal, and gold leaf.
